How do I play?
Read the two headlines and click the one you believe really happened. You will immediately see which one was real, a link to the original article, and the percentage of players who got it right. On a keyboard use 1/2 or ←/→ to pick and Enter to continue.
When does the daily challenge reset?
At 00:00 UTC (midnight in London in winter, 8 pm the previous evening in New York, 10 am in Sydney). Everybody in the world gets the same five pairs for that day.
I already played today. Can I try again?
No — the daily challenge is one attempt per day, that is what makes the shared result meaningful. You can play endless mode as much as you like.
What do 🐊 and 🦩 mean in the shared result?
🐊 is a correct answer, 🦩 a wrong one, in the order of the five rounds. The grid never reveals which headline was real, so it is safe to share before your friends have played.
How is the day streak counted?
Your streak increases by one every consecutive UTC day you finish the daily challenge. Miss a day and it resets to one. Streaks are stored in your browser, so a different device or a cleared browser starts from zero.
Are the "real" headlines really real?
Yes. Each one was published by a newspaper, TV station or news site and is linked to the article. If the original page has gone offline we link a copy on the Internet Archive. Headlines are shown as they were written by the outlet or the person who shared them, typos included.
Who writes the fake headlines?
A language model, prompted with real headlines on the same topic and told to match their style. A second automated review rejects fakes that are obviously silly, too close to a real story, or that mention real people. See About.
A "fake" headline actually happened. What now?
It is possible — Florida is a big place. Once a pair is answered by enough players and turns out to be confusing in that way, its statistics push it out of rotation. If you have the article, we would love to hear about it.
Why does "X % of players got this one right" sometimes say I am the first?
New pairs enter rotation every day. The first person to answer a pair sees no percentage yet.
Can I cheat the statistics by answering repeatedly?
Each anonymous browser is counted once per pair per day, and the API is rate-limited. You can see the reveal again, but it will not move the numbers.
Does the site use cookies or track me?
No cookies and no accounts. Progress, streaks and a random anonymous id (used only to count each answer once) are kept in your browser's local storage. See the privacy policy.
Can I see previous days?
Yes — the archive lists every past daily set with the answers, sources and how players did.
